Terms of Use

Effective: April 1, 2026 · Last updated: May 23, 2026

Beta Notice: Irin Observability is currently in beta. Features may change, be added, or removed without notice. Beta users accept an elevated risk of service interruption, data loss, and feature instability. Beta does not constitute a commercial release. No service level agreement (SLA) applies during the beta period.

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Irin Observability monitoring service ("Service") operated by Irin Observability, LLC ("Irin," "we," "us," or "our"), a Colorado limited liability company. By creating an account or using the Service, you ("Customer," "you," or "your") agree to these Terms.

1. Service Description & Scope

Irin Observability is a managed infrastructure monitoring service. We install a lightweight, open-source monitoring agent (Grafana Alloy) on your servers that collects system metrics and error logs and delivers them to dashboards you can access at any time. We configure threshold-based alerts that notify you when metrics suggest a problem may be developing.

Irin is a visibility layer. We give you the instruments to see what is happening on your systems; you decide what to do about it. All monitoring information, alerts, and reports are advisory only. You are solely responsible for acting on the information we provide.

The Service explicitly does not include:

  • Remote access to your servers (no SSH, VPN, or RDP access, ever)
  • Remediation, troubleshooting, or hands-on fixes to your infrastructure
  • Security monitoring, intrusion detection, or threat analysis
  • Application-level debugging or code review
  • Disaster recovery, backup management, or failover services
  • Hardware procurement or maintenance
  • End-user or customer-facing technical support
  • 24/7 on-call support

If you need help understanding a dashboard panel, an alert, or what a metric means, we are here to help. Implementation support and platform questions are always welcome.

2. Support Hours & Response

Support is available Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Mountain Time, excluding federal holidays. Our response target is next business day via email at [email protected].

Support covers:

  • Questions about Irin dashboards, alerts, and reports
  • Requests to adjust monitored scope (add or remove servers, endpoints)
  • Platform issues (login problems, missing metrics, alert delivery failures)
  • Guidance on interpreting dashboard data (advisory only)

Support does not cover:

  • Troubleshooting or remediating issues on your infrastructure
  • Hands-on server management, patching, or configuration changes
  • Application debugging or code review
  • Emergency incident response on your systems
  • On-site visits

All paid tiers receive the same level of support. If the Irin platform itself experiences an outage, it will be addressed as soon as practical. Your systems are not affected by Irin platform downtime; only visibility into those systems is temporarily interrupted.

3. Agent Installation Disclosure

To use the Service, you will run a bootstrap command on each server you wish to monitor. This command installs Grafana Alloy, an open-source monitoring agent maintained by Grafana Labs (github.com/grafana/alloy).

What the bootstrap command does:

  • Adds the official Grafana package repository (apt or rpm) to your system's package sources
  • Installs Grafana Alloy from that repository
  • Configures Alloy as a persistent background service (systemd) that starts automatically on boot
  • Installs a configuration sync timer that polls our server hourly for configuration updates and applies them automatically. This allows us to tune your monitoring without requiring you to re-run the bootstrap.
  • If Docker is detected on the server and your account is on a paid tier, installs cAdvisor (Container Advisor), an open-source container monitoring tool maintained by Google, as a systemd-managed Docker container on your server. cAdvisor collects resource usage metrics from running containers. Free tier accounts do not receive cAdvisor installation even if Docker is present.

What the agent collects:

  • System metrics: CPU usage, memory usage, disk usage, network I/O, and filesystem status
  • System logs: syslog, journald, and error-level application logs
  • Container metrics (if Docker is present): container CPU, memory, and network usage via cAdvisor

How data is transmitted:

  • All data is pushed outbound via HTTPS through an encrypted Cloudflare tunnel
  • The agent authenticates using a per-tenant Cloudflare Access service token
  • No inbound ports are opened on your server

The agent does not:

  • Grant Irin any form of remote access to your server
  • Read, transmit, or store application data, database contents, business data, or personal information
  • Modify your server's configuration, software, or files beyond its own installation directory and the package repository entry

The bootstrap command requires root or sudo privileges because it installs system packages and systemd services. You may uninstall the agent at any time by disabling the services, removing the package repository entry, and uninstalling the Alloy package. Instructions are available upon request or in your dashboard.

4. Free Tier Terms

The free tier is provided as-is, for evaluation purposes. No service level agreement applies. The free tier is limited to 3 monitored servers per account with 14-day data retention. The free tier includes system metrics and dashboards only; it does not include alerts, logs, Slack alerting, email reports, Docker monitoring, or endpoint monitoring. Irin reserves the right to modify, limit, or discontinue the free tier with 30 days written notice. Free tier accounts that remain inactive for an extended period may be subject to review.

5. Account Responsibilities

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate registration information. Accounts are limited to one per organization. Reselling, sublicensing, or sharing account access with unaffiliated third parties is not permitted.

6. Acceptable Use

The Service may only be used to monitor infrastructure that you own or are authorized to monitor. You agree not to attempt to access other customers' data, dashboards, or accounts; not to deliberately overload the monitoring infrastructure; and not to use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

7. Monitoring Scope & Limitations

Irin monitors the specific metrics, logs, and endpoints that are configured for your account. We can only alert on what we are configured to measure. Servers, services, or resources that are not registered with Irin are outside the scope of monitoring and outside our responsibility.

Monitoring is a best-effort service designed to surface potential issues based on observed metrics and threshold conditions. It is not a guarantee that all problems will be detected, that alerts will be delivered without delay, or that the information provided will be complete or error-free. Hardware failures, network outages, security breaches, misconfigurations, or events outside the scope of configured monitoring are inherently outside what Irin can detect or prevent.

Alerts and dashboards are only useful if someone is paying attention. It is your responsibility to monitor your dashboards, acknowledge alerts, and act on the information provided. Irin is not responsible for consequences arising from unacknowledged alerts or unused dashboards.

8. Data Collection & Privacy

Our data practices are described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

In summary:

  • Irin collects infrastructure metrics (CPU, memory, disk, network), system logs, and account registration information
  • Irin does not collect application data, database contents, business data, or personal information from your monitored servers
  • Your data is not sold or shared with third parties except as necessary to provide the Service
  • Metrics and logs are retained for 14 days (free tier) or 30 days (paid tiers)

9. AI-Generated Content

Certain features of the Service use a self-hosted language model running on Irin's own infrastructure to generate plain-English content from your monitoring data. This currently includes:

  • Monthly report narratives: A written summary of your infrastructure findings, derived from pre-computed metric aggregates. Generated once per month per account.
  • Alert interpretations: A plain-English explanation of what an active alert condition represents and what class of issue it typically indicates. Generated when a new alert fires and displayed alongside alert data in your dashboards.

What AI-generated content is and is not: AI-generated content interprets monitoring data. It does not recommend actions, diagnose root causes, or constitute expert advice. All AI-generated content is clearly labeled as AI-generated wherever it appears.

Accuracy: AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions, or misinterpretations. You should not rely solely on AI-generated content when making infrastructure decisions. If any AI-generated content appears incorrect, contact us at [email protected] and we will review it.

Data handling: Your monitoring data is processed locally on Irin's own hardware. No monitoring data, metrics, logs, or account information is transmitted to any external AI service or third-party model provider for this purpose.

Opt-out: AI-generated narrative summaries in monthly reports cannot be disabled at this time, as the report format includes clearly labeled AI-generated sections alongside deterministic data tables. If you have concerns about AI-generated content in your reports or dashboards, contact us to discuss your options.

10. Data Security

Data is transmitted via encrypted connections (Cloudflare tunnel + TLS). Reasonable security measures are in place, including tenant isolation via separate Grafana organizations, per-tenant authentication tokens, and multi-factor authentication on all administrative accounts. However, no system is perfectly secure, and Irin cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for securing your own servers and safeguarding your Alloy agent credentials.

11. Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. Irin is not liable for any loss of data, revenue, profits, or business arising from use or inability to use the Service, including but not limited to: missed alerts, monitoring gaps, delayed notifications, inaccurate metrics, service unavailability, or any failure to detect a problem on your infrastructure.

In no event shall Irin's total liability exceed the amount paid by you for the Service in the three (3) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. For free tier users, this amount is zero. These limitations apply even if Irin has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Irin Observability, LLC, its owner, and its affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

13. Intellectual Property

Irin retains all rights to the platform, dashboards, tooling, configurations, and documentation. You retain all rights to your infrastructure data. You grant Irin a limited, revocable license to process your metrics and logs solely to provide the Service.

14. Termination

Either party may terminate at any time. You may delete your account and request data deletion by contacting us. Irin may terminate accounts for violations of these Terms, abuse, or service discontinuation with 30 days notice. Upon termination, your monitoring data (metrics and logs) is deleted within 30 days. Dashboard configurations and alert rules are removed when your Grafana organization is deprovisioned.

15. Changes to Terms

Irin may update these Terms with 30 days notice. Material changes will be communicated via the email address on your account. Continued use of the Service after the notice period constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of the State of Colorado. The Service is available to customers in any U.S. state; the monitoring infrastructure is hosted on privately owned hardware in Colorado.

17. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

18. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any applicable Statement of Work, constitute the entire agreement between you and Irin Observability regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.

19. Waiver

The failure of Irin to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not be considered a waiver of that right or provision.

20. Assignment

You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our prior written consent. Irin may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
